Built in the early to mid-90's the CPF debuted, replacing the aged 'steamers' of the 50's. Toted as the most advanced warships at that time, the Halifax Class have stood up well to the battles they have faced. Shallow draught, and slightly larger than most Frigates, the CPF is a capable performer. Able to switch from ASW to AAW in seconds, the CPF is a practical escort. Fully computerized, the CPF is spacious by many Frigate standards, and includes its own beer stores. There is a hanger aft for one helo. The CPF carries one RHIB and two zodiacs.

The Lake Class Air defense Frigate is the second-class ship to be built under the Renaissance Project along with the Lake Superior class DDG, Bay Class multi role frigate and the River class OPV. The Lake Class is typically deployed either as single units or as the AAW screen in concert of other Lake or Allied AAW platforms in Task Groups. The Lake Class is a heavily modified Brandenburg (Germany) frigate, with the tried and true Canadian power plant of a cruise 20-cylinder diesel engine, with 2 GT's for increased speed.
The Lake Class is a favourite addition to any US Carrier Task Force as it uses the new AEGIS II radar.
