One of the first post-WWII hulls laid down for the Japanese Navy, the Chikugo class was poorly armed for its size and class.  Still holding to the Destroyer - Escort Classes of the war, the small frigate could only outgun coastal patrol crafts, and is totally dependant on friendly aircraft for air defense.  The Chikugo's role is strictly ASW.  They are now being paid off in the JDFN and being sold off to poorer Asian nations.  Living conditions are cramped at best onboard.
