Designed in the 70's as a 'modular' design concept, the OHP is inexpensive to build and repair. Many nations throughout the world use the OHP including Spain, Turkey and Australia (those class names listed in brackets). A decent frigate and ASW platform, the OHP is used in a variety of roles in its escort capacity. Two helos are carried aboard and are hangered in the aft. The 76mm turret is mid-ships, above the hanger. A ship of curious lore, the U.S.S. Stark was hit by an Iraqi missile in 1987, and the U.S.S. Samuel R. Roberts struck a mine in 1988. The namesake ship, U.S.S. Oliver Hazard Perry (FFG-7) has herself been paid off.
