Built in the 80's to compliment the ASW Udaloy Destroyer, the Sovremenny is equipped for ship to ship, ASW, and coastal bombardment. Using two steam turbines, this class of ship is a generation ahead of its predecessors as far as electronics and crew comfort. It is comparable to the US Arleigh Burke Class, other than that, it is a DDG of normal capability.
