An older class of Destroyer, the Charles F. Adams class will have been paid off for Merc worlds, but not in Twilight or DC. Though old, this class carries modern weaponry, and is capable as a 'team' player. They are not normally left to defend themselves alone. Germany and Australian modified hulls are used as air-defense and command ships for those nations' navies. These ships are solidly built, and crews tend to be cramped inside them, as they are small for a destroyer.

The Coontz (or Farragut) class were once classified as Destroyer - Leaders. They, due to their size, were then reclassified as Frigates, and then as Destroyers as they went into reserve in the 70's. When MILGOV and CIVILGOV split, CIVILGOV found itself dashing around trying to find equipment for its armed forces. The Naval Task group from CIVILGOV found five of the original ten Coontz DDG's alongside in Boston Harbour, only slightly damaged, and were able to send them to sea.

The premiere destroyer of the American fleet, the AEGIS destroyer is a combat ready ship with a massive amount of firepower available at a moments notice. Protected from EMP, its Ops Room is located below the waterline, as extra NBC protection, on top of the already extensive NBC fit. Designed with stealth in mind, Radar absorbing materials cover the Arleigh, reducing its Radar signature. Over 70 tons of armour are placed throughout the cramped ship, further protecting it.
Though fitted with a helo pad, the Arleigh - Flight I does not have a hanger, though it can refuel a LAMPS III SH-60B helo.

NOTE:
This is a DC or Merc 2000 game only ship, the Zumwalt was built to late
for the Twilight War.
Due to the sudden massive decrease in defense spending, many nations
united in research and developing new weapon systems together. The Zumwalt
was doomed to join many fine weapons systems on the scrapheap, when the Israeli
Rechargable Turboelectric turbine was added, making the DD-21 the first all
electrical ship.
The turbines power are produced by pop-out pods that run mini- generators as
the ship is underway, powering the ship and recharging the startup batteries.
Also the DD-21 has the Hyper-Velo 6" gun that can toss a regular 6" shell
100 miles. Congress balked at the building price, but the running cost,
[the same as a 44 ft fishing boat] insures the future of the class, plus it's
able to operate in Sea State 5.
For comfort, all cabins are between one to four man cabins, making the Zimwalt the most comfortable warship in history.
