Sandock-Austral Ratel 20 IFV

When the South African Government faced a world wide arms embargo in support of the United African Congress Against Terrorists, the nation had to build an arms industry from home. Using the captured OT-64 APC as a base model, the Ratel was born. Ideally suited for the back country of Africa, with its poor roads and rugged on road conditions. Though a good field performer, its tight turning radius and side gunports make it perfect for urban conflict which plagues the African countries. The Ratel is made with 'honeycomb' armour in the sides and underneath to disperse the force of a shape charge, by absorbing it around and into the armour, as opposed to punching through the armour and into the crew compartment. This has proved effective against mines as well.

Another homegrown IFV, the Ratel 60 is identical to the Ratel 20, save that the mortar is in the turret, and it carries MG's for air defense.
